Knee pain and knee wear (ઘૂંટણનો ઘસારો)
Knee pain is one of the most common problems we see. In many adults it comes from gradual wear of the cartilage that cushions the joint, known as osteoarthritis. It can also follow an injury, a twist during sport or years of extra load on the joint.
Common signs
- Pain while climbing stairs, squatting or getting up from the floor
- Morning stiffness and swelling
- A grinding or cracking feeling in the knee
- Difficulty walking longer distances
How we treat it
- Clinical examination and X-ray to find the cause and stage of wear
- Medicines to control pain and inflammation
- Injection treatment for knee wear when it is suitable for your stage
- Physiotherapy to strengthen the thigh muscles, improve range of movement and reduce load on the joint
- Lifestyle advice on weight, footwear and daily activities
Most patients improve without surgery. When wear is advanced and pain does not settle, we discuss knee replacement with you openly.
When to see a doctor
Book a visit if knee pain lasts more than two weeks, the knee swells, locks or gives way, or pain disturbs your sleep.
